Miss World finalist loses all limbs due to urinary infection

This is a story which certainly deserves the phrase “life’s a bitch”. To be a gorgeous model and world-renowned beauty and lose all your limbs, all because doctors misdiagnosed a condition that could be easily treated if they bothered performing a simple test is tragic.

Mariana Bridi Da Costa, the 20-year old Miss Brazil and a twice-finalist at the Miss World contest, fell ill on December 30. Doctors told her it was a kidney stone, gave her some medication and sent her home. Two days later she got worse and had to be taken back to the hospital. Doctors then performed a test and found out she had a serious urinary infection(pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria) that had progressed very fast. Apparently the infection was cutting off circulation in her limbs. With no blood circulating, they had to amputate both her arms and her legs. Mariana is now is in a serious condition on a ventilation machine in hospital in Serra, in the southeastern state of Espirito Santo and she might not even survive.
