Really, what is going on with Joaquin Phoenix? There are three possible answers:
1) He’s a drug-addict or he’s self-medicating with heavy anti-psychotic pills that turn him into an incoherent, glazed-eyed caveman.
2) He’s depressed (or gone mad) and his behaviour is not propelled by any drugs, just his sick mind. In this case, he is in need of serious therapy and those heavy anti-psychotic pills previously mentioned.
3) It’s all an act. He thinks he’s the best actor ever, and he’s put a bet with someone that he can make the entire world think he’s gone bananas.

He is ACTING. His friend is doing a “documentary” about his decent into hip hop and its all an act, just like Sasha Baron Cohen went on Late Nite as Borat or Andy Kauffman went on and did his characters or wrestled. Dave is laughing the whole time and making fun of him, so it makes me think he is in on the act. Check out Crispin Glovers interview on late night on you tube. He was REALLY on drugs that night, and Dave gets pissed and walks off the stage.

He’s waaaay high on painkillers/antipsychotics. To the comment that said Dave would have kicked him off like Crispin Glovers- Glovers was high on some hallucinogen, frightened of the audience’s laughter, and tried to kick Dave in the chest. Joaquin is a quiet walk in the park compared to him, much easier for Dave to tease and cow him around.

Not from LSD, it’s pretty much impossible to OD on LSD (assuming you’re not just drinking a glass of liquid).
At any rate, if his goal was to get people interested, it worked for me.

it looks to me that it is painkillers/muscle relaxers. i had a family member that had that problem and it seems almost idenical. i hope for joaquins sake that he is just acting because if it is the pills, without treatment he will o.d. and thats not MAYBE!

Realize this is rather old news. It was for a mockumentary. If Joaquin Phoenix was depressed or anybody else for that matter , what they most likely would be prescribed are anti-depressants. It would not be anti-psychotics. These drugs are for people who are psychotic. Anti-psychotic is not a general term for every psychiatric med aka psychotropic. I work as a mental health advocate for a Phila, PA rehab.
