Ok, we understand. Times are harsh and sales are not that great. So you figure, why not put a bunch of hot, naked girls in our pages, photoshop them to look like Playboy models and call it the “Naked Truth” Issue.
Then ask them a couple of questions like how confident they are with their own body image (as if Eliza Dushku, Padma Lakshmi, Sharon Leal and Lynn Collins ever lie awake at night thinking about their cellulite and their fat rolls) and hope female readers will connect with them and feel empowered, oh, we don’t know, to strip and run down the streets yelling “female-power”?
And maybe, just maybe you also hope that the magazine will fall into the hands of a few men who will undoubtely appreciate the subtle nakedness (and the fact that they can “read” Allure at the dentist’s office without getting nasty stares from toothless old ladies which would have been certain if they were to read Playboy or Maxim) and become regular readers?
You know, we were fine with all of that…until we turned the page and saw Chelsea Handler sprawled on a day sofa looking like playmate of the Year…and then we knew…it was all fake…shame on you Allure…let’s just call this issue “the naked lie” and let’s leave it at that.
