Bar Rafaeli has bailed out of her military draft back home in the HolyLand in a bid to pursue the holier land that is Los Angeles (and to uncover the Palestinian militants that are hiding under Leonardo Dicaprio’s briefs) and an Israeli soldier has taken great offence (military service is mandatory in Israel…unless you have an extra hot body like Bar’s in which case you are exempt).
Major General Elazar Stern is so enraged by Refaeli’s star status in Israel, he has contacted all the companies using Bar to sell products and complained. And he believes all Jews should boycott products she endorses.
He says, “I called the companies and the managers of those companies, and they told me, ‘That’s what the youths like’. I told them our job is to stress what the youths should like, not what they like now.”
This is not the first time Bar’s draft dodging has caused a stir with her fellow Jews.
Last year, a group of Israeli parents of IDF soldiers threatened to organize a boycott of Fox fashion chain (she had just signed a $300,000 campaign deal with the company) unless her contract stipulated that she had to complete her military service. Fox averted a boycott with a compromise:
“Refaeli will represent the company and will simultaneously visit injured IDF soldiers hospitalized at the Sheba Medical Center in Tel Hashomer every time she arrives in Israel. In addition, she will encourage soldiers to serve in the army.The way in which her “service” will be carried out has not yet been determined. The conditions were brought forth to Refaeli and she agreed to comply and to fulfill her duty voluntarily.”
