Winona Ryder is embroiled in a lawsuit against a video game manufacturer – she has been subpoenaed to testify as an expert witness. If you’re thinking, like we did, that this was a video game about how to use MI moves to snatch 50% off merchandise (extra points for full price garments) from Kitson’s without being caught and that either a) Winona designed it and is now fighting for the ownership rights or b)the game has serious glitches and her expertise is called upon in order to iron them out, well, you’re dead wrong.
California resident Erik Estavillo is suing the makers of the popular World of Warcraft series, alleging the game has drawn him into a “harmful virtual environment” which has left him unable to cope with real life…and so now he’s subpoenaing every suicidal or cleptomaniac celebrity out there to make his point…because this genius obviously knows something we don’t: that The Catcher in the Rye brainwashed Winona into stuffing lacy panties with metal detectors in her oversized bag.
To explain, the suit, filed in Santa Clara, California on Tuesday (24Nov09), has named Ryder as a potential witness, claiming her love of JD Salinger’s classic novel The Catcher in the Rye will have taught her “how alienation in the book can tie to alienation in real live (sic) / video games such as World of Warcraft.”
Estavillo has also subpoenaed Depeche Mode star Martin Gore, adding “since he himself has been known to be sad, lonely, and alienated, as can be seen in the songs he writes.”
Estavillo is seeking over a million in damages from Blizzard Entertainment.

Finally, litigation that isn’t frivolous! Take that imagination, with your imaginative things!
i play WOW. and i can say im addicted. and i can agree that some people take that addiction to another level. i am 24 with a wife and son. i take care of what needs taking care of then i play. this is the reason for the video game rating system.
If you would like to call yourself and adult you need to take responsibility for your own addiction and not put blame on the industry. just because you are a celebrity dose not mean you can dip your fingers in in the pockets of other rich people. just because they are smarter and made something people like. that’s like some one sewing the porn industry for making them want to wank all day and night.
let me know what you guys think!!
