According to British tabloid The Sun, Simon Cowell has turned to the FBI to stop hackers from stealing his label’s tracks.

Computer whizzes have recently ramped up their raids on his Syco label, part of Sony BMG.

Alexandra Burke’s upcoming single has been stolen and uploaded to illegal file-sharing sites, as has new material from 2005 X Factor winner Shayne Ward.

The thefts follow last summer’s internet leaks of songs by Alexandra and Leona Lewis, after which Syco called in cops.

The threat has now been judged so severe that the FBI have been called in.

A Syco spokesman said: “Hacking and stealing of songs is a real issue for many artists.

“We are doing everything we can to catch those behind this.”

Illegal file-sharing costs the recording industry tens of millions of dollars every year.

A quarter of all recorded music revenue now comes via digital output.
