An Austin man named Joel wasn’t aware anyone was watching when he dropped to one knee and proposed to his girlfriend in the middle of Capital Grounds park but it turns out photographer Patrick Lu happened upon the special event by accident and  shared the beautiful picture on Reddit: with the caption “Did any of you propose at the capital last night?”

The post climbed to the top of  subreddit /r/Austin with 1,400 up votes (the highest of all time in that subreddit), and Redditors had many suggestions on how to locate the mystery couple. As luck would have it Joel discovered the post hours later and tweeted his excitement that the picture had been taken:

Joel wasn’t surprised the photo found him so quickly, as he’s active in the Austin tech community and co founder of the ecommerce startup Amplifier but was grateful for the moment being captured saying:

“We experienced that magic on its own terms, with no thought about posing or anything. And, because the photographer did such an awesome job, we also have that precise moment and her beautiful reaction captured for safekeeping. It’s pretty priceless.”
